Use the Edit tab to prepare an image before inserting it into Figma or downloading it. The editor opens in a larger window, with tools on the left, a photo preview in the centre, and controls on the right.
Open an image
- Open TinyImage in a Figma Design file and select Editor.
- Choose Open image from computer for a PNG, JPEG or WebP file, or select a Figma layer and choose Use selected Figma layer. After an image is open, the toolbar also provides Open image and Selection.
- For Figma selections, choose an original image fill or a rendered layer, then select Open selected image.
An original image uses the source pixels without Figma's colour adjustments. A rendered layer includes the layer's visible appearance, including its Figma adjustments and other content. Only an original image fill can be replaced; local files, rendered layers and reopened projects can be inserted as new images.
Choose editing tools
| Tool | Controls |
|---|---|
| Crop | Doka cropping with aspect ratios, rotation, flipping and straightening. |
| Adjust | Exposure, brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks and gamma. |
| Colour | Temperature, tint, saturation, vibrance, a white-balance eyedropper and hue/saturation/luminance adjustments for individual colour ranges. |
| Curves | Master and RGB channel curves, plus black point, white point and midtones. |
| Detail | Sharpening amount, radius and threshold, clarity and noise smoothing. |
| Blur | Gaussian blur and motion blur, including direction controls. |
| Local | Radial and linear masks with exposure, saturation, blur and sharpening adjustments. |
| Retouch | A clone brush with size, softness and opacity controls. Hold Alt/Option to choose a source, or use Choose source. |
| Filters | Eight photo looks with adjustable intensity, plus saved custom presets. |
| Effects | Grain, vignette, bloom, duotone, halftone, chromatic aberration and pixelation. Effects can be toggled and reordered. |
Sliders and number fields control the same value. Each tool has a reset action. Use Before to view the unadjusted cropped image, or Compare for a draggable split view. Fit, 100% and the zoom menu control the preview; drag the image to pan. Fit follows changes to the editor window size. Manual zoom and pan remain unchanged when resizing.
Crop and retouch
Open Crop and use the cropping controls, then select Apply crop. Cropping uses the original image, and the photo adjustments are reapplied afterward. Reopening the crop restores its previous crop settings.
Changing or resetting the crop clears local masks and clone strokes because their positions depend on the image's crop. The editor asks before doing this when those edits exist. Crop changes can be undone while the editing session remains open.
The clone brush copies pixels from the cropped source image. It is useful for small touch-ups; it does not perform content-aware healing or object removal.
Save your work
Use Filters to save a named preset of your global adjustments, filter and effects. Presets do not include crop settings, masks or clone strokes.
Select Project to save a .tinyimage project to retain the original image, crop and editing recipe. Use Open project to resume it later. A reopened project can be inserted or downloaded; it does not reconnect to the original Figma fill. Undo history is kept for the current session and is not included in the project.
Apply or download the result
- Insert image creates a new image layer using the edited image's pixel dimensions.
- Replace fill updates the original image fill while retaining its placement settings and the layer's other fills. It clears native Figma colour adjustments so the result matches the editor preview. Figma Undo can restore the previous fill.
- Download exports PNG, JPEG or WebP at the edited image's full resolution. JPEG uses a white background for transparent pixels. If a format is unavailable in the current browser, choose another format.
Figma image assets are limited to 4096 pixels per side. For larger photos, Insert and Replace use a proportionally smaller asset while retaining the intended layout size. Downloads keep the full edited resolution.
If the source fill changes while you are editing, replacement is blocked. Reload the source or insert a new image instead.
Resize the editor window
The Editor initially opens at 1120 × 780 pixels. Drag the bottom-right handle to change its width and height. When the handle is focused, arrow keys resize by 10 pixels; hold Shift to resize by 50 pixels. TinyImage remembers the editor's size and restores its normal or expanded window size when another tab is selected.
Image limits
The editor requires WebGL and supports images up to 24 megapixels, subject to the device's GPU texture and memory limits. If an image cannot be rendered, try a smaller source. Preview rendering may use a smaller image for responsiveness; exported images use the full cropped resolution.
Image edits produce raster images. They are not editable Figma adjustment layers, and the editor does not process camera RAW files.
Use Compress to optimize exports, or Downsize to reduce existing Figma image-fill sizes.
