What this video covers
Remove image backgrounds in Figma with 100% local AI, then insert a transparent cutout, replace the fill or download a PNG.
Things you'll need
- A Figma file with an image layer, or an image on your computer
- TinyImage available from Figma’s Plugins tab
Steps
- Open your Figma file, search for TinyImage in Actions and run the plugin.
- Choose the Editor tab. Select an image layer and choose Use selected Figma layer, or choose Open image from computer.
- Choose Local AI in the tool sidebar, then select the Remove background tab.
- Click Remove background. On first use, wait for the approximately 99 MB model to download and for processing to finish.
- Inspect the transparent preview, including hair, thin edges and any remaining background.
- Choose Insert image to add a new layer, Replace fill to update the existing image fill, or Download to save a PNG.
- For another image, select its layer and choose Use selected Figma layer. Confirm discarding the previous edits when prompted; the model is reused during the same plugin session.
The video shows manually cropping empty space after insertion. The current plugin automatically trims fully transparent outer borders when you insert or download a cutout; replacing a fill preserves the full image dimensions.
