What this video covers
This tutorial shows how to use the CopyDoc Figma plugin to sync inline merge tags in text layers with data from a spreadsheet. It also covers syncing image fills from an artwork column and automatically repeating a selected layer for every spreadsheet row.
Things you'll need
- A Figma file with text layers containing placeholder merge tags
- A spreadsheet file such as an Excel XLSX file, CSV, Google Sheets URL, or Airtable URL
Steps
- Open your Figma file, find CopyDoc from the actions menu, and save it to your Figma plugins list or run it from Saved Plugins.
- Prepare a spreadsheet with column headings that match your placeholder merge tags, using the format #{column_name} in the text layers.
- In CopyDoc, click sync content and choose a source such as an Excel XLSX file, CSV, Google Sheets URL, or Airtable URL.
- Drag and drop the spreadsheet into the plugin to preview the matched columns, including any image URL column such as artwork.
- Select the frames you want to update and click sync rows with layers to replace the placeholder merge tags with spreadsheet values and sync image fills.
- For repeating content, turn on auto repeat on a selected frame and use sync and repeat selected layer to duplicate it for all spreadsheet rows.
- If needed, use the layer-name method by renaming a text layer to match a spreadsheet heading, then sync rows with layers to replace the full layer content.
