Find and replace Figma text content

This tutorial shows how to use the CopyDoc Figma plugin to find and replace text in a Figma file, preview the matches, and update selected text layers. It also covers case-sensitive matching with Match Case and notes that the required fonts must be installed for text updates to work.

Things you'll need

  • CopyDoc must be installed from the Figma Community
  • The fonts used in the Figma file must be installed

Steps

  1. Install CopyDoc from the Figma Community by searching for CopyDoc under the Plugins tab and clicking Install.
  2. Open your Figma file, then right-click, go to Plugins, and launch CopyDoc.
  3. Click Find and Replace to open the modal, then enter the text you want to find and the replacement text.
  4. Click Find Matches and Preview Updates to view all matching text layers on the current page and see the proposed replacements.
  5. Use the text icon on a result to jump to and select that layer, and uncheck any matches you do not want to update.
  6. Click Update Figma Text Layers to apply the selected replacements, then use Command + Z on Mac or Control + Z on Windows to undo if needed.
  7. Use Match Case when you need case-sensitive searching, and make sure the fonts used in the file are installed before updating text.
