What this video covers
The video shows how to use the CopyDoc Figma plugin’s Sync Content From Spreadsheet feature to pull data from an Excel file or Google Sheet into Figma. It demonstrates advanced merge tags for renaming layers, updating text, repeating frames for multiple rows, and overriding values by referencing specific spreadsheet rows.
Things you'll need
- A Figma file with the CopyDoc plugin saved
- A spreadsheet file such as an Excel file or Google Sheet
Steps
- Open the Figma file, search for CopyDoc from Actions, save it as a plugin, and run it from Plugins > Saved Plugins.
- Prepare the Figma layers and frame names to match spreadsheet headers, using tags like #Frame, #firstName, #Headline, and #{firstName} in layer names or text.
- Open CopyDoc’s Sync Content From Spreadsheet feature, drag and drop the Excel file into the plugin, and review the preview.
- Select a frame or layer and click Sync Rows With Layers to sync the spreadsheet content into the Figma text and layer names.
- Enable Auto Repeat if you want CopyDoc to duplicate the selected frame for each spreadsheet row, then click Sync and Repeat Selected Layer.
- Use dot syntax with a row number, such as .2 or .3, in the spreadsheet to pull a value from a specific row instead of the current row, then resync.
- Check the updated frame names and text layers to confirm the merge tags and row overrides were applied correctly.
