Video Tutorial: Export Figma to Adobe InDesign

This video tutorial is a complete step-by-step guide showing you how to automatically export Figma to Adobe InDesign (.idml) files with one click using the Convertify plugin.

To export your designs from Figma for Adobe InDesign, select the Export Figma to Adobe InDesign option from the Convertify select box in the plugin.

Exporting the current Figma page to InDesign

To convert an entire page, click Export This Page to begin converting the current page to an Adobe InDesign .idml package.

Exporting selected Figma frames to InDesign

If you only want specific areas exported, select the Figma frames you want and then click Export Selected Frames.

Downloading your .idml package from Figma

After Convertify has finished processing, download your .zip file from the file browser.

By default, hidden Figma layers are preserved in InDesign exports as hidden objects in the .idml file. To leave hidden Figma layers out of the exported package, open the InDesign export settings and enable Remove hidden layers from export before exporting.

If linked images look soft while you are editing in InDesign, choose View > Display Performance > High Quality Display. This changes InDesign's on-screen preview quality; the exported package can still contain the full-resolution files in the Links folder.

The exported .zip package contains:

• Your .idml file
• A Links folder with image assets

Saving file downloads from Figma If you're using the Figma desktop app, you'll see a prompt appear to download your file. However, if you're using Figma in a web browser, your file will automatically be downloaded to your computer by default (usually to the Downloads directory on your computer).

Opening .idml file in InDesign

Once downloaded, unzip the package and open the .idml file in Adobe InDesign to continue editing.

Keep the Links folder in the same directory as your .idml file so linked images are resolved correctly in InDesign.
