To export your designs from Figma for Sketch, you can follow the steps below to convert, download and open your .sketch file.

Exporting full Figma page(s) to Sketch

Once the Convertify plugin is running, ensure the Export Figma to Sketch option is selected, then you can select the Figma pages in your current file that you would like to convert to Sketch.

By default, all pages in your Figma file are automatically selected to be exported, but if you’d like to specify exactly which pages are included in the export, you can turn off the Export all Figma pages to Sketch toggle switch, and then uncheck/check the Figma pages for your current file that you’d like to export in the list of pages below the toggle.

After you’ve selected your Figma page(s), you can convert your design to Sketch by clicking the Export Pages button in the Convertify plugin. This will begin the automated conversion process.

Time Estimates. The time estimate (eg. ~14 seconds to convert 555 layers) is based on the number of layers in your Figma page to give you an indicator of how long the conversion will take. Please note that Figma pages that contain large images will likely increase the time needed to finish converting your Figma page to your Adobe XD file.

Exporting selected Figma frames on your page to Sketch

Alternatively, if you don’t want to convert full Figma page(s) to Sketch, you can convert certain frame layer(s) in your Figma design to Sketch by selecting the Figma frame(s) you want to convert, then click the Export Selected Frames button in the Convertify plugin. This will begin the automated conversion process.

Downloading your .sketch file

After Convertify has finished processing your Figma layers, you’ll be shown a confirmation message; you can download your .sketch file by clicking the Download .sketch file button.

Saving file downloads from Figma If you're using the Figma desktop app, you'll see a prompt appear to download your file. However, if you're using Figma in a web browser, your file will automatically be downloaded to your computer by default (usually to the Downloads directory on your computer).

Opening your .sketch file

After you’ve downloaded your .sketch file from Figma to your computer, you can open your file explorer to the directory where it was saved. Double clicking on the exported .sketch file will open it up in the version of Sketch that you have installed on your computer.

Enabling Figma Components to Sketch Symbols

By default, Figma components and instances are converted as regular Sketch groups and layers from Figma to Sketch. However, you can opt-in to the support for this feature by opening the Sketch settings in the Convertify plugin and enabling the Export Figma Components to Sketch Symbols toggle, which will convert your Figma components into Sketch symbols.

Understanding differences between Figma and Sketch

Convertify does its best to convert all of your layers and atrributes from Figma over to Sketch, however, there are some natural limitations based on Sketch supporting a smaller number of native features than Figma does.

Figma features that are missing in Sketch

These features are available in Figma, but aren’t native to Sketch, so they won’t be carried over with the Convertify plugin.

  • Hiding parent artboards
  • Rotated parent artboards
  • Ellipsis with “arc” properties

Please note that Sketch protoypes only supports the interaction of On Click.

Sketch also supports navigation types of Navigate To and Back.

Convertify will only carry over any prototype links in Figma that match these prototype attributes that are supported in Sketch.
