Importing charts from spreadsheet data

If you want to automatically generate Figma slide charts using data from your CSV files, you can click the Add Slides/Charts button at the bottom of your slides list, make sure the Chart Builder tab is selected, then follow the three steps below.

1. Select Chart Type ​

You can select one of the chart options below:

  • Bar Chart
  • Column Chart
  • Line Chart
  • Area Chart
  • Combo Chart
  • Donut Chart
  • Pie Chart
  • Scatter Chart
  • Stepped Area Chart

2. Add Chart Data from CSV ​

After you've selected your chart type, the data will be pre-populated with "sample data"; to use your own data, you can drag and drop your own .csv file into the dropzone area, which will automatically populate the chart preview with data. You can also make small edits to the data that was loaded into the plugin from your CSV file by clicking any of the input fields in your rows/columns under the .csv upload dropzone area.

Download sample CSV files for each chart type. You can download a .csv file containing sample data for any chart type by clicking your chart type, then clicking the chart-type-name-sample-data.csv link (right next to the 2. Add Chart Data heading in the Chart Builder window), which will download the CSV file to your computer. Then you can edit/update the CSV file and drop it into the plugin's dropzone to apply the data to your chart.

3. Add Chart Slide to Figma ​

Once you've chosen your chart type and dropped your CSV file into the dropzone, click the Add Chart Slide to Figma button to instantly add your chart to Figma as a new editable slide in your presentation.

You can optionally customize the colors, text content or any other elements of the chart design by editing the vector/text layers that are automatically added to your page when the chart is inserted from the plugin.

Reopen and refresh an existing chart ​

  1. Open Commands / Search, then choose Refresh charts and KPIs.
  2. Select an existing Pitchdeck chart. Its saved data and chart options reopen in the builder.
  3. Edit the table, upload a CSV smaller than 2 MB, or enter a public HTTPS spreadsheet CSV URL and choose Fetch and preview published CSV. Private spreadsheets need a downloaded CSV. Refresh happens only when requested.
  4. Review the chart, enter a source label, then choose Update chart and bound KPIs.

Refresh keeps the chart frame's ID, parent, position, size, links and frame-level motion. It replaces the internal artwork using the saved chart options; manual edits to internal vector layers are not retained. Move internal links or animations to the chart frame before refreshing. The source label, URL and refresh date are saved with the chart.

Use a table with headers, 1 to 5,000 data rows and 2 to 50 columns. Numeric series must contain finite numbers. Source data and options must fit their storage budgets.

To bind a metric, expand Bind a KPI to this chart, select a text object, choose its data row and value column, then set the prefix, suffix and decimal precision. Save the binding after previewing its value. Refreshing the chart updates bound KPI text on the loaded page using the stored formatting. A changed source chart or text rejects the stale update so it can be reviewed again.
