What this video covers

This tutorial shows how to use the Commentful Figma plugin to organize native Figma comments into statuses, tags, todos, and searchable views. It also demonstrates how to reply to threads, create new comment threads, export comments to CSV, and re-link the plugin if a Figma file is duplicated.

Things you'll need

  • A Figma file with native Figma comments
  • A Figma personal access token
  • The Figma file URL

Steps

  1. Install Commentful from the Figma Community, then open it from Plugins in your Figma file.
  2. Connect the plugin by saving a personal access token and pasting the Figma file URL to sync native Figma comments.
  3. Create custom statuses such as Completed or In Progress, then move comment threads into the right column.
  4. Open a thread card to edit its title, set a due date, add tags like Design, and filter comments by status, tag, user, date, location, or keyword search.
  5. Reply to an existing thread with markdown formatting, emojis, and links, then post it back to Figma.
  6. Add todos either on a comment thread or in My Todos, and switch between Private Todos and Assigned Todos to track work.
  7. Use the alerts panel to review recent comments, export Figma comments to CSV, or create a new comment thread directly in Commentful.
