# Remove background

> Create a transparent image locally and export a PNG cutout.

1. Open an image and choose **Background**.
2. Choose **Download model** to load the approximately 99 MB processing model. The verified model stays available while the plugin is open.
3. Use **Automatic** processing, or choose CPU if graphics processing is unavailable.
4. Choose **Remove background** and wait for the cutout. You can cancel processing without changing the image.
5. Inspect the edges, then [insert, replace or download](/tinyimage/editor-export) the result.

Processing happens on your device; your image is not uploaded. The cutout retains the original image dimensions and soft transparency. Current edits become part of its pixels; [History](/tinyimage/editor-history) restores the earlier image and edits.

Download **PNG** to retain transparency. JPEG places transparent pixels on white. Fine hair, fur, thin objects and complex backgrounds may need careful inspection. The editor currently has no manual mask-correction controls.
