# Adding a text indents or hanging punctuation to your paragraphs

## Adding text indentation to your paragraph

You can add text indentation to the first line of any paragraph by selecting a Figma text layer in your email, then applying a Paragraph Indent value in the Figma **Type Settings** panel (under the **Details** tab).

## Adding hanging punctuation (negative text indentation) to your paragraph

Figma doesn't allow negative paragraph indent values; so as a workaround, the plugin will still let you use a _negative_ text indent value by enabling the **Hanging Punctuation** setting on the text layer, which will use the Paragraph Indent value in the Figma **Type Settings** panel (under the **Details** tab) on the text layer as a _negative_ value, to get around Figma not allowing negative values in their UI.
