# Update Figma text layer content with Markdown files

This tutorial shows how to use the CopyDoc Figma plugin to export text layers to a Markdown file, edit the copy in a markdown editor, and import the file back to update Figma text layers. It also demonstrates grouped duplicate text layers for updating repeated text in multiple places at once.

**Things you'll need**

- Figma
- CopyDoc Figma plugin

**Steps**

1. Open Figma’s Resources icon, search for CopyDoc under the Plugins tab, and run or save the plugin.
2. In CopyDoc, choose Export text layers, select Markdown, and export the file.
3. Download and unzip the Markdown export, then edit the text content in a markdown editor while leaving the ID lines unchanged.
4. Return to CopyDoc, choose Import text layers, and drag the saved Markdown file into the drop zone.
5. Review the detected changes, optionally select or deselect items, and click Update Figma text layers to apply them.
6. To update repeated text in multiple layers, re-export with the group duplicate text layers toggle enabled, edit the grouped Markdown file, and import it again.
7. Optionally use Quick export with selected layers to export only specific text layers instead of an entire frame.
