# Exporting Figma to Adobe Illustrator

> Export Figma frames as legacy or PDF-compatible .ai files with Convertify.

Convertify exports Figma frames as `.ai` files for Adobe Illustrator.

> **Warning:** Illustrator export is in Beta. Review the downloaded file in Illustrator, especially text, transparency, effects and masks.

## Export your frames

1. [Run Convertify in Figma](/convertify/overview/install) and choose **Export from Figma**.
2. Choose **Export Figma to Adobe Illustrator (Beta)**.
3. Choose **Legacy .ai: layers and editable type** or **PDF-compatible .ai: exact look**.
4. Choose whether top-level layers become Illustrator layers or each frame uses one Illustrator layer. Choose whether to leave shadows and blurs out or keep them as images.
5. Select your frames and click **Export Selected Frames**, or click **Export This Page**.
6. Download the result, unzip it if needed, and open the `.ai` files in Illustrator.

## Choose editability or appearance

- **Legacy .ai** supports layers and editable type, with an **Outline text** option. It does not support transparency or effects. You can move hidden layers to a hidden layer, leave them out, or make them visible.
- **PDF-compatible .ai** keeps transparency and outlines text. Enable **Put all frames in one multi-page file** to combine frames; otherwise each frame becomes its own file.
- Keeping shadows and blurs as images trades editability for their rendered appearance. Matching fonts are needed when you retain editable type.

Multiple separate files are packaged in a ZIP. This is distinct from [unlayered EPS export](/convertify/export/eps).

To convert the other way, see [Importing Illustrator to Figma](/convertify/import/adobe-illustrator).
